Economics and Society

The Use of Knowledge in Society (PDF)

F. A. Hayek · 1945 · The American Economic Review

An economist friend of mine recommended I read this essay by Hayek. It was during a time that due to my work I had fallen away from my interests and felt myself mentally stagnating. Reading Hayek's essay, and the way it flowed like a lecture he was giving, reignited the part of me that wanted to continue learning and helped me get out of my mental stagnation. The essay is Hayek's discussion of how society can use information that is distributed or best observed across some local area. (I'm not an economist, I'm an engineer and a military intelligence officer just touching this field) and how prices can help people coordinate their decisions, how advantages can be gained from knowledge of said prices.
